Learning to Light can be hard!
So this workshop is targeted at photographers and content creators who want to learn how to light.
I'm going to get you started with LED's.
LED's are the easiest way to learn how to light because What You See Is What You Get.
LED's soften the barrier of entry to learning about the world of lighting.
Maybe you are new to lighting, new to LED's or just want to take your lighting to the next level!
A workshop isn't a workshop if you're not getting your hands dirty. So once you have seen me do a demonstration, you will get to shoot our model with your own camera under my guidance to add some amazing new shots to your portfolio.
I'm going to keep everyone together in one group with one model this time. This way everyone can benefit from my teachings and we aren't divided.
Get hands on with the equipment!
At this workshop I will have an assortment of Nanlite LED lighting equipment for you to use.
We will have lights from multiple ranges including some Pavotubes!
Learn to Light Series
What Will I Learn?
The topic of conversation is learning to light with LED's.
We will have a look at the benefits and features of using LED and how they compare to flash.
We will look at hard light, soft light, then some more advanced lighting setups. I will then introduce some colour and even an optical spot if we have time!
You will learn how to setup, shape, balance and control light.
We are going to look at camera settings and shooting with correct white balance as well as exposure.
We will explore some of the modifier options that we can use for portraits and why.
I will be giving as many lighting tips for your portraits as I can.
I am a very laid back person, and my workshops are designed to offer more of an informal, relaxed experience. So ask questions, have fun, and enjoy yourself.
We will all be taking photos and i'll help everyone along the way.
Lighting Essentials
What do I need to bring?
- Your digital SLR or Mirrorless camera or even a Phone camera!
- Your lenses (anything in the 24 - 150mm range)
- Your memory cards
- Make sure your batteries are charged! (don't laugh, it's happened before)
- You must know the basics of how to use your camera in manual mode. eg: adjusting your aperture, shutter speed, and ISO.
- A smile and a fun attitude!

Brodie will break down the basics of how to light and the benefits of using LED's. Brodie will demonstrate how to use LED's creating a setup from scratch with a model.
I will then advance that setup to something more advanced so we have some variety and you can see some possibilities.
You will get more than one opportunity to take your own images.
